Our love story began in Greenville, North Carolina, at Boli’s 5th Street Pizzeria in the spring of 2011 (or December 2010, depending on who you ask). Portia often visited because her roommate worked there, and Charles and his fraternity brother Justin, both from Pitt County, decided to eat there one Saturday night. Spotting the two gentlemen in their Omega Psi Phi shirts, Portia and her friend Arielle, members of Zeta Phi Beta at ECU, struck up a conversation. This chance meeting led Portia and Charles to exchange contact information on Facebook, sparking a special bond.
Over the next few months, Portia and Charles stayed in touch, with Charles visiting Greenville for National Guard drills. Their connection grew, even as Portia moved to Florida for graduate studies in 2011. By 2014, Charles also found an opportunity in Florida, and their friendship endured despite the distance. Returning to North Carolina in 2018, their bond deepened, eventually blossoming into a romantic relationship in October 2021.
From that first night at Boli’s through a decade of shared experiences—celebrating graduations, renovating a home, exploring new cities, and sharing laughter—their love grew stronger. On Portia’s 34th birthday, in a picturesque moment in Jamaica, Charles proposed, and Portia joyfully accepted.
